Food for Good – Mobile Feeding Day 1 of 2010

I have to admit there were many butterflies leading up to day 1 of the 2010 year. Last year, we had 18 stops each day split between two trucks. This year, we have 100 stops split between ten trucks! Last year, we had two drivers on the delivery routes, and this year we have ten. Last year, we ran the program from July to mid-August. This year, we will be operating every day of the summer vacation (June 7 – August 20). Read more

The #Promise Conference

Yesterday PepsiCo brought hundreds of people together in a trendy Manhattan workspace to discuss the role of social and mobile media in driving social good. This inaugural one-day conference during Internet Week was called the #Promise (the hashtag is a reference to Twitter for you non-tweeters) and was sponsored by PepsiCo in partnership with ThinkSocial. Not only did the topic, speakers and panels fascinate me, but in the true spirit of the event, the role of technology spoke for itself: all day long people tweeted their questions, opinions, concerns (and even “Who keeps coughing in the back? Shh!”) to a live stream which was projected on two giant screens in front of the room. Corporate Cases The event featured speakers from five large companies (PepisCo, Timberland, GE, MTV and Nokia) who addressed how social and mobile media are changing the way their companies achieve social good.... PBC Gives Back Day: Paul

A group of 35 energetic PBC employees completed yet another successful Gives Back Day at the Green Chimneys School campus in Brewster, NY, last week, executing the tasks in the true spirit of the Pepsi family – with focus, hard work,  and commitment to quality – all while having fun in the process! Whether weeding flower gardens, laying down mulch, erecting a baseball batting cage, or painting 20 picnic tables, the teamwork was evident throughout and the results were impressive. The Green Chimney staff was very appreciative with the sprucing up that this team did, especially since they’re hosting a building naming ceremony next week and will have many outside guests visiting the campus.  Dr. Ross, the school founder and executive director, passed along his gratitude to PBC employees for our part in supporting the sustainment of this very important organization in the community. Stumble(d) Upon Some New Interests

So look, I have been up front from the beginning, I am not an experienced web user. The only time I go on youtube is to either: a) watch some young child, old woman or random person singing a classic American song better than the original artist, or b) to search for something funny. Usually I give up my search after about five minutes of being distracted by watching babies laugh. When my web page pulls up I go directly into one of several options: 1) Email 2) Google/Bing.com 3) Facebook For me, the internet is still slightly overwhelming. There is just so much out there! The potential to see, hear, listen and learn is just at the edge of my fingertips, or computer keys, if I only knew how to stay focused and be patient. Read more

PBC Gives Back Day: Helga

“All hands on deck!” was the motto yesterday, as a very enthusiastic group of PBC volunteers fanned out across the grounds of Ability Beyond Disability, a group home in New Fairfield, CT.  The team refinished a (long) driveway, weeded and planted gardens in the front and back of the house and spruced up the backyard with some new grass seeds and the removal of dead tree branches. To round out our accomplishments for the day, the house received a fresh coat of paint on the front door as well as some new outdoor lighting.  Though clouds loomed dark in the morning, the sun came out just in time to shine a light on what giving back to community truly means! PBC Gives Back Day: Victoria

I traveled throughout Connecticut and New York yesterday to offer support and capture some great photos of our third annual PBC Gives Back Day employee volunteer event. As a new employee I was so excited to play a significant role in helping to organize this year’s events. Coordinating seven volunteer events on the same day is no small task, but our partners were enthusiastic, and our employees were inspiring. I had the chance to see volunteers in action at Ability Beyond Disability in New Fairfield, CT, Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining, NY and  at Green Chimneys in Brewster, NY. I can’t express enough the true passion our PBC employees have when it comes to giving back to their communities. Today was a true success, and I can’t for Gives Back Day #2 on July 16th! PBC Gives Back Day: Catherine

I’ve had the great fortune of being involved with PBC Gives Back – as both a participant and organizer – for the past two years.  And I have to say that unquenchable spirit that we talk about at PBC is definitely alive and well! Today, my first project site visit was to the Childcare Learning Center in Stamford, CT. There, PBC volunteers worked with pre-school children on math skills and helped out during “circle time”. We even had a special version of “Itsy Bitsy Spider” sung to us…in Spanish! While there, another group painted one of the classrooms. It was so rewarding to see the smiles on the children’s faces…They were so happy to see us and be able to spend time with us; What a small gesture on our part to have been worthy of such a wonderful response! The second project was at... Read more
