Lay's Mobile Farm in New York's Times SquareFaced with an ever increasing array of choice, consumers have a growing interest in learning more about where their food comes from and supporting local suppliers.  As a result, the number of farmers markets in the US has grown tremendously, up 65% since 2005.  There are over 107 farmers markets operating in NYC alone!

While consumers enjoy interacting with farmers and purchasing their produce, most – especially those living in big cities – have never been to an actual farm.  The folks at Lay’s®, part of PepsiCo, are trying to do something about that by bringing a one-of-a-kind farm experience to cities across the country.

The six-city “Lay’s Mobile Farm” tour kicked-off in New York City’s iconic Times Square and will travel to five other major cities throughout the U.S. – Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas.  The tour is a natural extension of the brand’s “Happiness is Simple” campaign that celebrates the people and communities across America that help make Lay’s potato chips.

The “Lay’s Mobile Farm” is a 70-foot long, 10-foot wide and 14-foot high traveling greenhouse featuring potato, tomato, bell pepper, onion, and basil plants – just some of the natural ingredients found in Lay’s potato chips.  Visitors will have an opportunity to learn how a real farm works and meet a local Lay’s potato farmer. Families will also receive take-home educational materials that provide simple tips and fun activities to inspire at-home gardening.

Given our long-standing relationships with many famers, we thought this would be a fun way to highlight their work and celebrate communities across America where Lay’s potato chips are made.
