The 2011 Consumer Electronics show just wrapped up in Las Vegas, Nevada. No doubt you’re seeing a variety of different reports and recaps of the event as its considered a bell-weather of the health of the electronics industry; and many of the products we will all consumer over the next year break at this event.
You might wonder how a food and beverage team would care about CES. Don’t we sell food and beverages
Yes, of course that is true but it’s our belief that all brands are now digital. That’s the language that you, our consumer, uses. You may talk with us on Twitter; you may look up ingredients on your smart phone. It’s incumbent upon us to truly talk the language of our consumers and understand the technology that influences you.
Here are some notes:
Its all about Convergence. Connected TVs have been a hot topic for many months now; as has 3-D television. Both of these technologies have the ability to re-invent the at-home entertainment experience. It’s a really exciting time to be a consumer! Beyond that, more screens with added social content (blogs, Twitter Facebook feeds) provides even more opportunity to engage outside of programmed content. As brands, we will look to connect that content to make it even more relevant, interactive, dynamic and personal.
What’s the difference between a laptop and a smart phone? A TV and a smart phone? Does it matter anymore? The emergence of tablets like Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, Blackberry’s PlayBook and Motorola’s Xoom beg the question of what really is a mobile device. Sure, the market will be flooded this year, but expect the bigger changes to be in the mobilization of content.
I also participated in a panel discussion entitle ““Social Media For My Brand” at the K-Stage; part of Kodak’s area of the event. I talked with employees from Ford Motor, Foursquare and Dell about how technology and social media influence the conversations that we have with consumers. I was in great company and it was a lot of fun!
