Last week, I found myself on the campus of California State University – Los Angeles (CSULA), as Victor Crawford, president, field operations for Pepsi Beverages Company, unveiled PepsiCo’s new environmental investment to the City of Los Angeles.
Surrounded by curious University students, Victor announced the launch of new, alternative fuel vehicles to the Frito-Lay and PBC fleets. Frito-Lay recently added 14 all-electric delivery vehicles to its fleet in L.A, and PBC will add 24 hybrid-electric delivery vehicles to the 49 hybrid vehicles already in place in the greater L.A. region. These new additions reduce fleet fuel usage by tens of thousands of gallons, and also decrease carbon emissions. In fact, the PBC trucks cut carbon emissions by 25 percent, and the all-electric Frito-Lay vehicles cut carbon emissions by 75 percent.
Standing with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and CSULA President James Rosser, Victor also unveiled the Dream Machine program in Los Angeles. Dream Machines were installed at the Cal State L.A., with an additional 15 machines being installed at parks across the city. By the end of the year, more than 200 Dream Machines will be in place across L.A.
I was really proud to be a part of this event, as the PBC and Frito Lay teams put Performance with Purpose on display in L.A. I have been with the company for a little over a year, but I’m still impressed with how committed PepsiCo is to our local communities. By aligning with the Mayor’s office and his commitment to greening L.A., PepsiCo is helping the city face its environmental challenges head on, and has made a public commitment to good corporate citizenship. Our organization never retreats from delivering results, but it is also a standard-bearer in corporate citizenship. That is Performance with Purpose.
