“As the delegate already chosen to represent PepsiCo UK at the One Young World summit in Pittsburgh this week, it was a nice additional surprise to be invited to the Palace for a reception with the other UK delegates, hosted by David Jones – one of the founders of One Young World and the Duke of York. Unsurprisingly I’m not a regular visitor to St James Palace – so to be treated to Champagne and Canapés with the Duke of York was a rare treat!

The evening was a great opportunity to hear the Duke’s perspective on what we should challenge ourselves to get out of the 4 days in Pittsburgh, and I also found it a useful chance to do some networking and understand the challenges faced by not just attendees from other businesses, but also academics and the various sponsors of delegates to understand what they each want to get back from the summit. Topics on the agenda range from corporate social responsibility and the image of big businesses as viewed by society, to the role of governments and environmental sustainability – a really broad range of challenging subjects which I look forward to seeing more on at the summit next week.”

“One Young World is an Organisation that describes itself as a place where ‘young leaders start leading’. Being thought of within that bracket is very flattering but more importantly it has given me the opportunity to hear from some of our great global leaders (Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, Professor Muhammad Yunus and HKH Prince Haakon of Norway to name a few) about what issues we, as the next generation, need to face into.

Representing PepsiCo for the past 12 months as a OYW delegate has been fantastic and something that I will look to continue as the group of previous attendees grows with the introduction of 13 new members this year. Attending a reception with the Duke of York was a unique way to hand the UK baton over to Sam and has further ignited my spark to develop a PepsiCo Performance with Purpose agenda in conjunction with my fellow PepsiCo OYW alumni.”
