Claire B. Lyons

Prior to joining PepsiCo Claire launched and directed community based nonprofit organizations. Her early passions focused on facilitating start-up activity in entrepreneurial social services and community-based demonstration pilots primarily in the mental health and education sectors. A move to Moscow in the early 1990’s proved to be a seminal time for Claire as the Russian Federation was challenged with the pressing issues of a newly independent state. She co-founded the Moscow Mental Health Association and consulted to emerging women's shelters, hot-lines and budding advocacy groups. Out of this grassroots activity, Claire founded Downside Up -- Russia’s first registered charity and community-based organization dedicated to children with Down syndrome and developmental delay.

The PepsiCo Foundation Grants $5 Million to the IDB’s AquaFund

In anticipation of World Water Day today, it’s been very busy around the halls of PepsiCo.  In case you’re not up to date on the world’s latest water stats, here are the two big ones to wrap your brain around: nearly one billion people are currently without access to clean drinking water, according to a recent United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) report. Another approximately 2.6 billion people don’t have access to decent sanitation services or sanitary facilities. Where in the World Is Claire?: Part 2

Greetings from Bangladesh! Right now I am mid-coast in southern Barisal with the incredible staffers from Save the Children.  After a speed boat ride down a glorious and picturesque river to reach remote villages, we spent a remarkable and moving day talking with groups of women,  seeing how the promises of the “Enhancing Life & Livelihoods” are bringing health and happiness. The ELL program has saved many babies and toddlers from disease and stemmed the tide of malnutrition in this region. It is a powerful privilege to witness. We’re heading up river tomorrow for our final day of village visits. I am really pleased to have Dana Langham of Save the Children contributing to the blog today . Dana has been with me on this trip and has been involved with Save the Children... Read more

Morning all! It’s not quite dawn, Monday morning January 31st. The warm musical notes of the call to morning prayers rise up to the 12th floor of our hotel from the loud speakers in the bustling streets of Dhaka below. Since I have the great fortune to travel for PepsiCo to amazing, out-of-the-way towns and villages across the world, it occurred to me that it was high time to bring you along, to share a bit about the incredible work and achievements of PepsiCo Foundation’s partner organizations. This is my maiden voyage to Bangladesh. What took me so long? I keep asking myself. Bangladesh has the fifth largest population in the world with an estimated 165 million inhabitants giving it the designation as the world’s most densely populated country. It’s relatively small in landmass and tucked between China and India. Nearly half its mostly rural population... Read more
